Traffic Signal Arrows in Florida: What Does Each Color Mean?

When an arrow appears on a traffic signal, it specifically controls movement in the direction indicated. Knowing what each color means helps you make turns more safely and respect the right-of-way.

Red Arrow

A red arrow means STOP. Come to a complete stop before the stop line, crosswalk, or intersection. Do not proceed in the indicated direction until a signal permits that movement.

Yellow Arrow

A steady yellow arrow indicates that the signal is about to change to red. If you are already in the intersection, complete the turn cautiously; if you have not entered, prepare to stop.

Flashing Yellow Arrow

A flashing yellow arrow allows you to make the indicated turn with caution. You must yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. Green Arrow A green arrow allows you to proceed in the indicated direction. Stay alert for pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicles that are still legally within the intersection.
